While I welcome you to our home, you’ll most likely not see or hear much from my husband, Blake. While he’s my biggest cheerleader and supporter when it comes to improving our home and cabin, he mostly steers clear until I need help with something heavy, or to check to make sure I haven’t fallen off the scaffolding.
Down to the studs
Let’s start out with a little background about Frels at HoMN…
Until Blake and I got married, I was a serial apartment dweller. As a renter, the most I ever did was hang pictures on walls, and usually just with command hooks. I didn’t take it much further than that. So when we purchased our home in 2019, I was completely overwhelmed with everything I wanted to change—and the fact that I could do pretty much whatever I wanted.
When COVID hit in 2020, and our spring break plans were canceled, I decided to use that time off to tackle my first project: our powder room on the main level. I’d been inspired by many women I’d been following on Instagram and just decided to go for it.
I created my Frels at HoMN Instagram account because I didn’t want to force the followers on my private account (full of funtivities) to have to watch my DIY adventures.
One room at a time
While I wish I could tackle every possible project as quickly as possible, I know that it takes time to create, learn and do the work. Between our home and our cabin, I pick what’s most important and try to focus on one project at a time.
For 2022, I’ve chosen four main projects: my home office, the dog’s room (we like to call it the Dawg Pound), a small garden at the cabin, and some landscaping around our cabin. My actual project list is about a mile long, but I’d rather take my time creating something I love than rushing through projects and cutting corners.
A little about me
I’m a Georgia girl, born and raised right outside Atlanta. I went to the University of Georgia, where I was a Georgette (the UGA danceline who performs with the Redcoats) for three years. I changed my major umpteen times and never settled on anything specific. I say I’m passionate about Georgia football…others may call it something else.
I’ve lived in five states in the last 10 years and moved several times in between. I met my husband on eHarmony in January 2018, moved to Minnesota in the summer of 2018, got married and purchased our home in 2019, and here we are.
I start every day with coffee, and my treat after church on Sundays is coffee. It’s my motivator and gets my creative brain flowing.
I’m a content writer* by day, and I love my job. I never studied to be a writer, but now, I wouldn’t want to be anything else.
Let’s get started
I’m happy to be back in the blogosphere and excited to take y’all with me on this DIY adventure. I’m not going to promise that this blog will only be about DIYs…because it’s about our life at home in Minnesota (HoMN).
First things first. Where’s the coffee?
*I do not promise there will be no grammatical errors or typos. At work, everything goes through a review and a QA. Here, it’s just me.
